Today, we're diving into the exciting world of cool homepage design examples that will leave your dream clients drooling. We’ll talk about what to include, how to structure your home page, and how to create aesthetically pleasing designs. Are you ready to plan your website's home page, optimize it for conversions, and create a killer design that attracts and converts? Let's go!
I'm Natalia, the founder of Green Studio Marketing. My mission is to help industry leaders like you stand out, gain visibility, and sell with confidence, one website at a time.
Your home page is the virtual front door of your business. It's the first impression you make on potential clients, and it sets the tone for your brand. Think of it as your online storefront, where you showcase your unique offerings, values, and personality. A well-designed home page should grab attention, engage visitors, and guide them towards taking the desired action, whether it's signing up for your newsletter, booking a discovery call, or making a purchase.
And believe me when I say this even though it may hurt your feelings, people can totally tell when a website looks professional or when it was DYed without a strategic intention. But that’s not going to happen to you because you’re here & I’m not gatekeeping anything!
Creating a captivating home page doesn't have to be rocket science. By following some tried and true best practices, you can ensure that your design not only looks cool but also drives results.
A successful website starts with the basics, which means it has to be eye catching. But having a “pretty” website is not enough these days. There are some strategic elements that come into the equation and I’m going to outline each one.
The first time someone lands on your website, they should understand what you do in less than 5 seconds. Seriously. Like Donald Miller says in his book Building a Story Brand: “If you confuse, you lose."
See this example of my home page header:
After analyzing hundreds of website in my years of experience in digital marketing, I’ve found that many of them fail by having a really difficult language, copy and sections. Again, if your home page is not immediately clear and concise, or your visitors need to use their brain and burn calories to digest what you meant to say, you’ll make them lose interest.
In most cases, when you design a website on your own you’ll probably have a bunch of paragraphs and copy, and when this happens, I encourage you to re-read and re-read until you cut out all the unnecessary noise and copy. Trust me, after looking through your website with fresh eyes you’ll see the difference it makes to "perfect" the words on every page.
Check out the first section under the first scroll of my website home page:
People love stories. And even if you’re a corporate brand or feel uncomfortable with showing your face, the more you show the human aspect of your brand, the faster you’ll establish trust. In the end even on social media people love to follow other people and “humanized” brands. Don’t be afraid to tell your story.
See this example of the section where I introduce myself:
There is a huge difference between having a website that looks like it was made by your millennial nephew who doesn’t have a real job yet, and having a website that showcases that you’re professional brand. For elevating your website, ask for client testimonials and look for press mentions so that you can showcase your authority and credibility.
Call to actions are strategic sections in your website where you drive visitors to take actions. Some call to actions can be “shop now” or “download this free guide” or “sign up for a discount” or “subscribe to our newsletter”. Play around with them depending on your niche and make sure they are repeated anywhere relevant. Yes people hate pop ups, but pop-ups work. Include pop-ups and forms at least 3 times or more in your website strategy.
Ah, the age-old question: how often should you redesign your website? There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but it's essential to assess your website's performance regularly. While a complete overhaul might not be necessary every year, refreshing your design periodically can keep your brand relevant and up-to-date. It’s like cutting your hair or doing your nails from time time. Redesigning it every several years is all about refreshing the vibe when you feel your current business has outgrown your website and the way you present yourself to the world.
I’ve redesigned my site like 3-5 times!
Your homepage should be a visual representation of your brand and an enticing invitation to explore further. But what does that actually mean? We'll break down the essential elements that every effective homepage should include, such as a clear value proposition, compelling visuals, intuitive navigation, and social proof.
