30 Life Lessons From a Millennial Female Entrepreneur

web design for life coaches

Turning 30 is hard. I’d love to say that I’m excited about it, but it’s a bit nostalgic to officially accept the fact that I’ve lived 3 decades and that I’m almost halfway through,...life. So I wanted to take a mindful moment to reflect on the 30 life lessons that I’ve had over the years hoping that each one resonates with you if you’re an entrepreneur, a business women, a daughter, a wife or partner, a sister, or simply an incredible woman.

1- Your time has a price

Every single second you spend on your computer or offline has a price. Sometimes the opportunity cost of being in your laptop can bring you income, but the time you choose to not spend with your family also has a cost. That’s why it has been my ultimate goal to ditch the corporate environment so that I could be by own boss, work on my own terms and learn to build this life balance that I crave between serving people by doing what I love, but also being present with my family and friends.

2- People will not be afraid of your price, whoever wants to work or hire you and understand
the value of your time will pay the price you choose..

This particular thing has also made me question my offers, and my pricing. Because if you are capable of only spending 3-4 hours on your computer per day, this also should have a price, and you can absolutely decide what that hour is of value to you. The right people that see that value will pay thart price, I promise!

I’ve literally sold my same offers again and again doubling and tripling my prices in the past 3 years..and if I can do it, so can you. The same logic applies to a workspace environment. If you don’t feel comfortable with your salary, the
people who value your time and experience will pay what you negotiate for.

3- Emotional feelings sell more than anything else

This also applies to your job, your business. Having the right mindset to bring your elevator pitch into a meeting, into a sales call, into how you will help others get a specific result so that they can have less stress, more growth, more time, less overwhelm, less anxiety, etc will help you get better at selling.

People make emotional decisions, and they say yes to
you. If you communicate your value correctly.

4- Nobody really cares about your Linkedin experience, personal stories hook better than job descriptions…

This applies to how you present yourself in the online world. People love reading about how a busy mom with 3 kids and 9 dogs has a business. Or how you overcame having zero dollars in your bank account and built a profitable business. Or even sharing vulnerable stories like when you experience anxiety as a business owner. The more you share your human side, the more you actually connect with your audience.

5- When in moments of frustration, don’t quit, put your anger and frustration into action…

I’ve had a ton of late night dramas crying over my husband’s shoulder frustrated about the amount of time and energy I pour into things and not achieving the results I wanted at that specific moment.

But one mindset coach told me something 3 years ago that has been a foundation of my daily mindset which is: “if you are doing everything you’re supposed to be doing to build your dream business, don’t stress about it, picture that you are already achieving your goals and just work on your tasks to get there”

Once I started implementing this mindset I went from feeling like a failure after a first launch, to understanding why I didn’t hit my goals, and I’ve been working every single day to fix the things that aren’t working, instead of just letting anger, frustration and resentment drown my energy.

I like to put my anger and frustration into action.

6- Talking about your business all the time is not bragging, it’s networking

If you feel insecure about talking about what you do it will be very hard to build reputation. All of my friends and family know what I do because I always spam about it, and every time they have someone to refer to me, I would like to say they think of me, because they are constantly reminded about what I do.

7- The scariest business investments are typically the ones that push you to the limit, and as a result, help you grow

When you buy a low ticket course, coaching etc you don’t stress too much about it because it didn’t hurt your wallet. When you invest in something that was above your budget for your business, I totally get how it can feel very scary.

You’re looking at your credit card statement thinking “how the heck am I going to pay off my expenses”, or you get anxious about doing mental math thinking about how many clients you need to bring in to cover a big business investment.

So my advice here is to be mindful with you you invest your money, but if you are sure it is a business investment that may not pay off in the immediate future, but will help you lay solid foundations for your future, go for it!

The scariest business investments I’ve made, I would not take back one single cent. They were 100% worth it because I know exactly what to focus my time and energy on to keep building my business for the long run.

8- A steady income is never assured, either with a 9-5 job or with your own business

Take it from me, the digital nomad that has lived in more than 13 locations all her life. When I used to work at a corporate office, yeah you have your paycheck. But then COVID can happen, and you can be left on the street. If you have a business, maybe you don’t have a stable paycheck when you’re starting out, but you can easily double your income very quickly and work half the time spent in a corporate office.

9- An abundance and manifestation mindset does work..

You should feel that you deserve to thrive, and be 100% confident with your value and offers. If this is in alignment with your daily work, people will see your confidence, and sales or work will flow into your life. I promise!

10- Toxic clients or relationships can open doors

If you learn to deal with toxic relationships and clients, and learn how to block the toxicity from affecting your mental health, you will build skills that will help you to respond nicely and professionally when something isn’t working out, and you’ll make room for more clients or relationships that are a better fit for you. Learn to say no, and clear your calendar for working with people that you enjoy to work with.

11- Setting boundaries in your life does not mean you are mean, it means that you value your time

If you are the first person in your life that values your own time, you’ll learn how to politely set boundaries, streamline your workflows, and let other people stress about deadlines or deliverables. Be clear about your process for working, and set clear expectations before working with a client so that you have freedom, and not the other way around. Just because you serve clients doesn’t mean you have to serve them 24/7.

12- There is always someone behind the screen

Every time you post something on IG and feel sad that you got 5 likes, or when you send out a newsletter and it got 10 opens, that’s amazing! Each tiny effort counts, and if you treat your marketing efforts with respect, understanding the value that you are creating, don’t look at the small numbers. Each tiny business success is a milestone well earned, and there is always someone behind the screen watching you grow!

13- Perseverance is the secret to success

If you are serious about building your business in the long run and launched your social media or website give it time to grow. Most entrepreneurs expect to get results within the first year of launching their business, and while this can happen if you do a strategic marketing plan, what can also happen is that your business can also grow slowly. So don’t get discouraged and focus on the journey.

14- Nothing falls from the sky

Most of my clients expect that by just posting on social media and having a website they will magically start to get sales and results, but if you want immediate results, you need a marketing budget, if you don’t have a marketing budget then you have to focus on building your business with organic marketing. Either way, nothing comes for free. Either you need time, or you need money to help your business grow.

15- Gratitude is always important

Practice gratitude for everything that flows into your life. It helps you become aware of what you’ve accomplished and open to keep letting more abundance flow into your life.

16- Negative feedback is never negative

Don’t let negative comments bring you down. They are the most valuable advice anyone can give you to polish your service and make it the best there is.

17- Each day is filled with opportunities to grow

You just have to be fully open to detect them, and claim them. Collaborate, send that email, apply for that coaching, grow your team. Do whatever you need to do to have success.

18- Over-delivering always helps to build upon your pricing

I know it can be frustrating to over-deliver and undercharge, but at least for me, it has helped me gain confidence over the years about what I am willing to do and what I am not. If I can say something about my consistent 5 star reviews is that I have had some negative experiences with clients, and when that happens, I always put the client first and try to fix whatever they didn’t like until they are happy.

19- Never reject free collaborations

I know that our time is valuable, but every single collaboration I’ve done with others in my field has always opened doors for me, and helped me build my online reputation.

20- Keeping track of your business and personal finances helps you understand if you actually have a business, or a hobby

And if this sounds harsh it’s true. Clear finances will tell you if you are actually bringing in profit or spending everything you earn. If you can’t pay yourself a salary or hire team members, you need to rethink your price strategy.

21- Your first [launch/email/promotion/website/marketing effort] will probably not be the best, but it’s better to move forward messy than to not move forward at all

Consistency in getting up after each failure is the only thing that will make you better at what you do. I have literally pre-sold my courses or services in a very messy way. But messy is always better than perfect. Perfection should not be your goal, getting people to say yes and figuring it out along the way has worked waay better for me.

22- People don’t know what they want

So you need to tell them what they need and how you can help them in a 30 second elevator pitch. Practice that elevator pitch until it becomes your website headline and Instagram bio.

23- A mentor in life and business is always of value so that you don’t feel alone

I mean, take it from an emotional busy mompreneur like me. I’ve poured my feelings with a marketing and business mentor that is not my family or friend but she has always guided me objectively in my personal and business life decisions.

24- Your great or bad results are a product of your effort

If deep inside you didn’t put a lot of effort into something, don’t complain about the result. Either you’re all in, or accept your results if you didn’t fully commit to your goals.

25- It’s not the algorithm’s fault that you’re not selling or growing

Platforms change, algorithms change, and if your business depends on these then you are not seeing the full picture. Learn to see the big picture so that social media becomes a medium for growing, but don’t rely on it for your business growth.

26- If you have a powerful business purpose, you’ll attract the right people

Getting clear on your business purpose can help you attract dream clients. I truly never thought that I would have the privilege to work on a sustainable safari project in Tanzania, Africa. But life brought it my way because I;ve been committed to my business purpose from day one.

27- Celebrate each achievement big or small

I like to celebrate with a glass of wine, a mocha latte, an evening off, a trip to the corner store.

Treat yourself to savor those micro moments in life to enjoy your hard work. Jump on your sofa, hug your partner, throw papers in the air and express your joy for achieving something each single freakin’ day. I like to throw virtual confetti at my clients.

28- Never kill your 3am inspiration moments

Luckily Notion, or your notes app on your iphone can have a treasure of ideas that you can easily achieve if you write them down. Every time you write a crazy idea somewhere, it exists. And once it exists, it’s up to you to make it happen.

29- Mindset is everything

You literally can achieve anything you want in your life, if you work for it.

30- Life is to do what you love every single day

Are you living the life you want? I hope that what you do every day draws you closer to achieving your dreams.

Tools for Client Communication or CRM: 1- Moxie First on the lineup is Moxie (affiliate link) – simply the BEST customer relationship management tool that will help you stay in touch with your clients, manage leads, and streamline your projects like never before. It's like having your very own virtual assistant who never takes a coffee break! And the reason it’s #1 on my list is because it was specifically designed to not overwhelm you with setup like Dubsado, or over-complicate task management like Asana, Monday and similar. Their website says it and it’s true. Stupid good tools for freelancers, and I second that headline all the way! Main features I love: Ditch calendly, built in scheduling Ditch all your apps for forms, built in forms that can be connected to your website Ditch Notion, Asana or Trello, you can build your client projects inside Ditch Hello Sign and similar, you can sign your contracts here Ditch a checkout software, you can charge subscriptions, send invoices and recurring invoices here Time tracking Create email templates and replicate Dubsado workflows with a breeze Automations, streamline your client onboarding from form, to contracts, to payments with a built in visual automation editor way more friendly to look at than with Dubsado Mobile App, your business on the go Customizable client portal Visualize your lead pipeline and never miss out on following up I could go on, but this blog was supposed to be about other tools too, but seriously give Moxie a try I promise it’ll be worth your time and you’ll be cancelling at least 3 app subscriptions quickly! Thank me later ;) !
